Midway 75 was a solid success thanks to your efforts.
We gained five new members.
Most of the participants understood the purpose of the event and got something out of the experience.
I
am thinking perhaps a two day event next year at Trinity - we ask La
Quinta about favorable rates [they are across the street]. Perhaps
Trinity has some dorm rooms as well.
I am
thinking an operational Napoleonic game in a large room with vendors
along the edges of the room. We do it in Melton Hall which is in the
Cafeteria building. Costs probably around $1000 instead of the $600 for
Midway 75 - there is also a Lantern Lounge [the circular room you saw as
you entered the dining commons. Some selected vendors and perhaps flea
market tables.
The best news is that the
Museum of the Sailor, located just outside the main gate of Great Lakes
will be able to take Midway 75 inside their building.
They
have a main room which we could set up Pearl Harbor for Eric Wright to
use as a working display with the public and then have a Midway battle
resolution table right next to it where we ceremoniously bring the air
strikes to be resolved.
There is a conference
room perfect for the judges with small task force rooms along a nearby
hall - Eric is keen on making this work
Date - Saturday, June 3, 2017 at the Museum of the Sailor
I am inviting all of you to judge again
Eric
tells me he will attempt to get the commander of the base and his staff
to participate. Opponents to be determined - could be our members, NAvy
ROTC, Army ROTC etc. I think we need to decide by the end of March.
Eric will take point for all publicity - wonderful!
Eric
is also interested in running my Axis and Allies Guadalcanal game - for
the future let us think of naval history battles that we could run
there. Riverine Civil War, Sails of Glory one on one duels [I have all
we need for that one]. Etc
So once again - thanks and let me know of your availability for June 3rd!
Service
Steve
